I always have a strong urge to draw on January 1st. I think it's because occupying some chamber deep within my brain is a glimmer of hope that it will start some kind of year-long trend of being productive. Nothing much ever comes from this sad little tradition aside from the occasional decent drawing with which I manage to ring in the new year. This year I drew Glory.
Glory has been one of my favorite comics of the last year and I think the character design is perhaps my favorite thing about the book. Glory's look is SO `
mooncalfe, which immediately drew me to her.
This version of Glory's armor is an amalgam of several different versions of her gear. I liked the overall look of her "modern" outfit, but preferred the "booty shorts" look with the exposed thighs that she sports in some flashbacks over the full leg armor she's generally seen in. I also didn't draw any armor on her arms because I thought it would just make the pose more confusing.
Drawn on 8.5x11" 2-ply bristol, inked primarily with a nib and a little bit of brush, and colored in Photoshop.
I like the booty shorts mainly because the pale, unclothed thighs break up all that dark red in her costume a bit. Did "they" really make you add that design element to some of her earlier outfits? If so, that's hilarious.
there were some things i was told no about that i wanted to do initially (but most of which i was eventually able to do, like the pants), which were the pants, a mohawk, Glory having purple eyes (which i never got to do) and being fully albino (which i kind of made happen depending on the colorist), Glory couldn't be taller than Supreme, and her costume being red/grey (which i did get to do).
here's a Glory design post from over a year ago which maybe you missed: [link] it was written when i'd only drawn the first 2 issues so i hadn't gotten to do all the things i wanted yet.
I should do a variant version of this piece with your Rainbow Glory color scheme.
