Every week over at the Stock*Pile Work Blog [link] ~jessemunoz, ~GreenSkyZero, ~kansatron, and myself sketch a pre-determined subject. This week Jesse chose Punk Storm.
I was planning to draw a picture much closer to the other Punk Storm you can find in my gallery from a few years ago, but after seeing Jesse and Joel's entries this week I decided to stray from the "full figure in the center of the image with perhaps some lightning" route, which both of them had already done better than I probably could. Hopefully my last minute change of heart led to a more striking design. I wanted to color this, but I honestly couldn't be bothered considering that I finished the inks at around 6am. Maybe I'll post a second version when I'm not on the verge of slumber.

Cool piece of art! I get it, but it is a unsettling.
So, i'm going go on little rant here,
the image and general replies have kinda raised my hackles. nothing personal, just my sightly heated POV.
I'd have to say, I just don't get why people want to change Storm and other generally "boy scout" "girl scout" types into trashy "bad girls" and "bad boys".
And think they'd liked her better.
i mean, Maybe Captain America should be a member of Hydra too right? we'd like him better and buy his books right?
Maybe wolverine should stop drinking and smoking and join the Mormons, people might like him better.
becasue it's the opposite of what he is now, not so not boring.
Or is it that we just want ALL characters to be hard drinking and smokin' party types. Invisible woman, Scarlet Witch, Dr Strange Mr. Fantastic, Superman, Batman, wonder woman, Aunt May, they all should be punked out trashy party hos'. then we'd read their books right?
To me it's kind of an knee jerk adolescent reaction.
Similar to some people's reaction to Disney Princesses and Movies. It's all just to sweet and clean for some. Not what they are used to, not the way they see the world, not what they like, sooo it must be dragged down to the gutter to hold any interest.
don't get me wrong, parody and alternate universes are cool but... c'mon
Look, characters thankfully have many different personalities likes and standards, not all personalities are going to be everyone's favorite flavor.
But a decent writer can write for characters of all kinds. The real world has real variety, dark and light clean and dirty. and Storm's character was begun and, IMO, hangs on her being somewhat regal in bearing, and connected to nature in a 'down to earth' but somewhat transcendent way. So her hanging onto a bottle of brew getting drunk on the regular wouldn't really do it for her.
IMO, people wanting established characters to be different are on the wrong track. If folks want a character to be like XYZ, then it should be a NEW character. IMO it's disrespectful and a waste to dismantled SOLID characters to fit different or current sensibilities.
Heck, If the regular x-men characters are too boring , then Set them aside and write news, characters that drink, cuss and party all the time. Everyone should be Lobo, Deadpool, Wolverine and Vamprella. THEN people will come back to reading more comics i guess.
