For those of you watching Richard Friend
, you not only know that he's an incredible inker who has worked with some of the most talented artists in comics today, but also that over the past few days he's uploaded some pages of Travis Charest's art from Wildcats V.2 which he inked. Just for kicks I thought I'd throw up a page of the same artwork that I inked during my first year at the Kubert School. The assignment was to ink a page drawn by a professional artist, and despite the amount of work involved with inking over Charest's incredibly detailed pencils, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to work over my favorite artist. It's one of the few assignments that I got a perfect grade for while at the school. I also had the opportunity to have Richard critique my work at the San Diego Comic Con in 2005. Laying my inks next to his work on the same page, he pointed out a few things that could have been done better before mistaking my inks for his own. It was one hell of an experience to see my work next to Charest and Friend's, and it felt pretty good that mine was close enough to the original that they could be confused at a glance.
